I was at the peak of my career as a breast cancer surgeon when I made the hardest decision of my life—I walked away. Not because I didn’t love my work. I did. My surgeries were often curative, and there was nothing more fulfilling than helping my patients. But after having kids at 42 and 44, I realized I wanted to actually raise them.
